SRINAGAR, JUNE 13 (PTK): Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) teachers on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against the government for failing to fulfill their demands, in Lal Chowk Srinagar.
Scores of the SSA protestors assembled outside civil Secretariat gate in Srinagar, while shouting anti-governmental and anti-administration slogans demanded the pending salaries of three-months according to seventh pay commission, besides de-linking their salary from Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
“We have been knocking at the doors of the government time and again to fulfil our demands. But there were no initiatives taken by the government till now, which has literally forced us to suffer on daily basis,” said Abdul Qayoom Wani, President, JKTAC.
However, Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled a sit-in organized by teachers joint action committee outside civil secretariat Srinagar and bundled the leaders of various associations in police vehicles. They were later lodged at Shaheed Gunj Police station.
The president threatened that if the protesters will not be released by today evening, they will hit the streets tomorrow again in Sheri Kashmir Park for 24, long hours. (PTK)
